How to report email spam

These are instructions on how to report spam that we discussed in in Super Simple Security Principles episode 19.

If we don’t have instructions for your setup, or the instructions aren’t working for you, please reply to this topic (with a screenshot if you know how) and we will help you figure it out.

If you access your email through an app on your phone or tablet

iPhone / iPad - Apple Mail app

  • If you are viewing an individual email, tap the arrow at the bottom of the screen, then scroll until you see Move to Junk.

  • If you are viewing a list of emails, like your Inbox, swipe left on the message, tap More, then scroll until you see Move to Junk.

  • If you want to report multiple emails at once, tap the Edit button in the upper right, then tap on the circle next to each email you want to report, then tap Mark in the bottom left, then Move to Junk.

iPhone / iPad - Gmail app

  • If you are viewing an individual email, tap the three dots in the upper right, then Report spam.
  • if you are viewing a list of emails, tap the profile circle to the left of each message you want to report, then tap the three dots in the upper right, then Report spam.

Android - Gmail app

  • If you are viewing an individual email, tap the three dots in the upper right, then Report spam.
  • if you are viewing a list of emails, tap the profile circle to the left of each message you want to report, then tap the three dots in the upper right, then Report spam.

Fastmail app

  • If you are viewing an individual email, tap on the More button in the bottom right, then tap Report spam.
  • If you are viewing a list of emails, tap the empty box next to each email that you want to report, then tap on the More button in the bottom right, then tap Report spam.

Outlook app

If you access your email through a browser

Gmail
The Report spam button is a hexagon with an exclamation point inside.

  • If you are viewing an individual email, click on the Report Spam button above the message.
  • If you are viewing a list of emails, select the emails you want to report by clicking on the checkbox to the left of them. Then click the Report spam button above the list.

Outlook

Yahoo

Fastmail

  • If you are viewing an individual email, tap on the More button near the top, then tap Report spam.
  • If you are viewing a list of emails, tap the empty box next to each email that you want to report, then tap on the More button near the top, then tap Report spam.

If you access your email through an app on your computer.

MacOS - Apple Mail app - Select the message and click the Junk button in the Mail toolbar.
