Strange BookBub errors

On another note, I get daily emails from BookBub which sends me notifications of discounted ebooks. The email includes a link for each book that takes me to the Barnes and Noble (or Amazon, etc) to purchase the book. Today, I tried to click on the link, and got this message:
You don’t have permission to access “http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/the-lost-story-meg-shaffer/1144231986?” on this server.

Maybe this is the universes way of telling me to stop buying nook books? And also, super frustrating. I copied and pasted this in my url and came up with several different possibilities of why this might be happening. I cleared the cache and cookies on my browser, and I updated and restarted it as well, but I still get this message. Now I’m wondering if something else is going on? Can you decipher this message? I was able to go onto Barnes and Noble’s website and manually enter in the books and purchase them, so take that, universe! lol

It’s working for me now, and my guess is it might be working for you now as well. The “edgesuite.net” is the biggest clue here. That is part of what’s called a Content Delivery Network or CDN.

For delivering media (and other big stuff) - images, movies, etc., there are often a bunch of locations where they are stored behind the scenes, to make the downloads go faster.

So, for example, copies of the book you were trying to download might have been on a computer in California, and also in New York. Physical proximity on the internet impacts speed, especially for big stuff.

There are computers working behind the scenes to make sure this is hidden from the person downloading the big thing, and that whenever changes are made, or new files are added, they get sent to all the different locations.

Most of the time it works great and is a huge benefit to everyone, but occasionally something goes wrong. My guess is that there was just a temporary issue.

If the issue persists or is reoccurring, let me know and we can discuss further.

It is working for me today, but it wasn’t working for a few days and didn’t work for any of the book links I clicked on.

I understand what you’re saying, but it seems strange that I have never encountered anything like this.

The links didn’t open Barnes and Noble’s website, just an error page.

I will update again if it happens again.

Thank you for the information! So fascinating how the digital world works!
