Kind of an odd email question… I have a situation where I want to create a new email to use with a group. I’m currently leading this group but expect to hand off ownership in the future. The goal would be to have the group email list stored with the account so it’s all set for the next owner to use. So… I think what I want is:
- email privacy since I’m personally trying to move away from Gmail and other data miners
- no anchor to personal info since I don’t intend to be a long-term owner
- free since I don’t want to impose a fee on someone else to continue what I start
- easy/familiar UI since I have no idea of the tech technical knowledge of subsequent owners
Certainly there are bigger options out there like CRMs or email marketing software but I’m only expecting one hundred or so emails and #4 above may become the primary driver.
So what ideas are there for this weird question?
If I understand you correctly, you want to be able to easily send out emails to about 100 or so people easily, and pass that ability onto the next leader. Is that correct?
Let’s start with the two reputable free, private options that I know of: Proton, and Tuta. Both of which require a paid account to create groups of contacts.
However, I just tested a quick work around. I created a list of 100 email addresses, then started a new email using a free Proton account. I pasted the list into the “To” field, and it accepted them all just fine. So it looks you don’t actually need a Contact Group, as long as you don’t mind that extra step. I’m not 100% sure this works because I don’t have 100 people I feel comfortable sending a random email to there to do a complete test, but my guess is that it will work.
What you could do then, since with a Proton account you also have a 5 GB free drive, is store a document of all the email addresses that you could copy from.
Then the only limitation I see running into is being able to send 150 messages per day. But as long as your group stays under 150, that still means you could send out 1 message per day.
That’s the best I can think of given what you’ve shared so far. Does that sound workable for your situation?
The unfortunate reality with free products is that they get abused like crazy, so unless you have a monetization strategy like Google’s, you have to severely limit the abilities. Even Google has limits, just less restrictive than most others. It’s sad - there would be a lot more awesome free stuff if it weren’t for the trolls.
The drive feature could be handy for other potential things as well. I’ll have to look at Proton closer. Thanks!
